After just over a month's summer break between the rounds prior at Snetterton and the recent meeting at Silverstone, the Fiesta Junior drivers were eager and raring to go back out on track to continue the season. One such driver was Scott Cansdale, who spoke to Olivia Humphrey just after practice on Saturday.

How was practice?
It was good today with being third quickest and I have got to pull that over to
qualifying.

What would you say is the biggest challenge when racing at Silverstone?
Track limits at the moment and there is a new curb on the first corner and that
has been challenging, keeps it unsettling in the car.

We have just come back from the summer break, what did you get up to?
I went on holiday to Spain with my two mates

Are you excited to be back with the Fiesta Junior Championship?
Yes definitely, it feels like ages since Snetterton!

His excitement translated into pace come qualifying, as Cansdale put his HW Racing car 4th on the grid for Race 1 before getting past James Waite and then benefitting from Nicholas Reeve's early retirement to follow race winner Jack Davidson home to the flag in 2nd place. Olivia caught up with Scott shortly afterwards.

How was race one?
It was good, got a good start from fourth up into third and we were keeping on
with the first two. Nick (Reeve) had a problem so I got through into second and
was keeping up with the leader for a bit and then my tyres just went off towards
the end and I lost him. Pulled away from James Waite and then he was only
catching again with his tyres and breaks going on but other than that it was a good
race.

Are there any new challenges going into race two, or do you think you can repeat
the success?

Hoping to repeat it, maybe one step higher. Obviously Jack (Davidson) is quick but
we have new tyres on now so we should hopefully be able to do a bit better for a
bit longer.

There are some dark clouds overhead currently at Silverstone, how will potentially
bad weather affect your race?

We had a bit of wet testing on Friday and (the pace was) not too bad in the wet. But it will affect
it as I haven't done much wet testing but it has been good.

Thankfully for Scott, the rain stayed away for Race 2 as he once again settled into 2nd place, before a red flag mid way through and the subsequent clear-up operation forced the race results to be declared. Nevertheless, two 2nd place finishes at the circuit which Cansdale also picked up his first podium back in May was just reward for a hard weekend's efforts.

Scott has now moved into the top 5 in the championship points and with two race meetings still to go at Croft and Donington, there's every chance he can still climb higher should his pace continue to get stronger towards the end of the season.
