The BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship

The proven platform for young drivers

After being conceived in 2012, the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship has gained a reputation as one of the fastest growing junior championships in British motorsport. Catering for 14-17 year old junior drivers that may either be taking their first steps out of karting or starting their racing career entirely from scratch, the Championship makes use of the Mk6 Ford Fiesta ST hatchback to provide a competitive, driveable and enjoyable entry point to racing.

Starting the 2017 season on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in April, the Fiesta Junior Championship will take in many of the same venues and circuits that are still currently utilised by the British Touring Car Championship such as Silverstone, Donington Park, Croft and Rockingham, making it an ideal place to gain an initial foothold and vital experience on tracks they’re sure to drive many times in their careers. The Championship also benefits from full MSA Academy status, allowing the drivers regular sessions with Academy tutors on various important subjects in motorsport. All this combined is key to set the tone of a young driver’s development.

2016 saw the biggest and most competitive season to date, with 7 different winners and 12 different drivers gracing the podium throughout the year. The grid also features an admirable mix of large and small teams with both tasting success in equal measure, which proves that regardless of how big their budgets could be, a driver always has a great chance to succeed at this level. Team support is of course available from several outfits on various levels to suit a driver’s needs. Race meetings feature two practice sessions, a qualifying session and two 20 minute races, providing plenty of track time to allow drivers to build a key understanding of both car and circuit over the weekend.

Another vital aspect that FJC provides is a real family atmosphere, helping to create one of the closest knit groups of drivers you’ll find in a paddock across the country. Camaraderie is strong amongst all drivers, which translates into true respect out on track. In this championship, the racing is certainly hard but equally as fair. Close oversight and guidance from the championship co-ordinators also helps install a professional and appropriate mind-set and attitude towards their career.

Those who have seen success in Fiesta Juniors have gone on to have successful careers at higher levels, with the most notable alumni being Aiden Moffat in the BTCC. Other drivers who can attribute FJC in their racing CV include Freddie Lee (2016 Pickup Truck Racing Champion), Alex Reed (British GT), Jack Mitchell (2014 Ginetta Junior champion; British GT), Geri Nicosia (2014 champion; Ginetta Junior frontrunner), as well as Charlie Ladell, Rory Collingbourne and Thomas Grundy (all Renault UK Clio Cup). There’s also been plenty of progression into the senior BRSCC Fiesta Championship, with 2015 champion Aaron Thompson a notable name along with Nathan Edwards, Lewis Kent, Danny Harrison and James “JJ” Ross.

With 2017 set to be the Championship’s most exciting year to date, don’t waste any time and kickstart your junior driver’s racing career with Fiesta Juniors – fast, friendly, forward thinking and most importantly: fun!

Fiesta Juniors have been the winners of the Downforce Radio award for Best Junior Championship for the last 3 years on the bounce!
